LIQUOR LICENSING LEGISLATION

On 20 April 2006, the Queensland Government introduced amendments to the Liquor Regulations of 2002 which pertain to the Liquor Act 1992. s37H of the Amended Regulations deals with the provision of discounted or free alcohol, and is enacted pursuant to s142AL(1)(B) of the Liquor Act 1992. After seeking a clarification about the ambit of the section and its effect on discount cards such as the L Card, we were recently advised by the Liquor Licensing Division of the Queensland Department of Tourism, Racing and Fair Trading that licensed establishments may be unable to honour discounted drink deals.

In light of this information, we advise that you check that L Card deals apply prior to purchasing alcoholic beverages. As stated on the L Card, the L Card website and L Card promotional material, deals are subject to change without notice and conditions apply. Check out 'The Deals' section of the L Card website, which lists 83 fantastic deals that are not alcohol related.
